Delegation from Maribor at a business visit in Moscow

The meeting between Dr. Andrej Fištravec, the Mayor of the City Municipality of Maribor, and the Ambassador was dedicated to Maribor’s ongoing projects with Russia, such as the ČHE Kozjak pumpedstorage power plant and the Russian Museum. The Mayor also presented the Invest in Maribor – Welcome to Slovenia project in the framework of which the City Municipality of Maribor will organise a Slovenian-Russian business forum to take place in 2016. The Ambassador offered his assistance and gave information about opportunities arising in the countries of Central Asia.

During the visit, the delegation from Maribor also met with representatives from the Tyazhmash Company – one of the world's largest producers of facilities and equipment for energy production. Cooperation possibilities for the construction of the ČHE Kozjak pumpedstorage power were also discussed. The representatives presented the company’s interest, and options for implementing and financing the project. Operational meetings will follow.

The delegation also accepted an invitation to participate in a parade on Red Square where Moscow City Day was being celebrated. There a spectacular event took place with 16 orchestras from among the world’s top 100 orchestras participating. One of them was the KUD Pošta Orchestra from Maribor. Along with various guests from abroad, the Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the event.

It should be noted that last week H.E. Dr. Doku Zavgajev, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Slovenia, bestowed upon the Mayor Dr. Andrej Fištravec a high Russian state award – the Order of Friendship. The Mayor received this order for his great contribution in strengthening friendship and cooperation with the Russian Federation, and the development of trade and business as well as cultural bonds. The order is awarded by the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
